About PFLAG Lubbock

Who are we?

Our Vision

We, the parents, families and friends of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons, celebrate diversity and envision a society that embraces everyone, including those of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. Only with respect, dignity and equality for all will we reach our full potential as human beings, individually and collectively. PFLAG welcomes the participation and support of all who share in, and hope to realize this vision.

Our Mission

PFLAG promotes the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons, their families and friends through: support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to enlighten an ill-informed public; and advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights. Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity, and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity.

PFLAG Lubbock has regular meetings on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 1501 University. We also have several special events during the year. Such as an annual picnic and holiday dinner and gift exchange, National coming Out Day Dinners, Community Events, Speaking Engagements on the Texas Tech campus and other places around town and many more exciting events!!

Currently we have two support groups:
Moms’ Meetings – meets quarterly
Trans Support Group – meets twice a month

What to expect at Regular Meetings:

PFLAG Lubbock meetings are a safe place to share our experiences in small groups and support each other in the continuing process of learning, acceptance and celebration. Our meetings begin at 7:00 pm but come a few minutes early to meet others and browse materials.

The size of our meetings vary, however, you can expect 15-30 people (members and first time visitors).

The meeting begins with the Chapter President welcoming everyone and making a few announcements. Each month we offer a program that focuses on one of the three primary missions – Support, Education or Advocacy.

Programs normally last between 30-45 minutes. We have announcements from the floor after the program and then everyone is invited to share any news or concerns that they would like to share. No one will be pressed to share information and simply listening what others have to say is fine.

Confidentiality is a top priority. Nothing said during sharing – support time will leave our meeting room.

Our organization does not promote one religion or political party or candidate over another. We represent people of many backgrounds, political persuasions, and faiths. All are welcome.
